nepali temple in varanasi

Filed under: india, logging, real links — jj at 1:42 pm on Monday, April 10, 2006

there is a nepali temple in varanasi, close to the lalita ghat. it is build after the model of a nepali king who lived in varanasi / benares and named after one of his three wifes. but i forgot the name. the lalita ghat is named after the other one. there is a third thing in varanasi named after the third wife but i never know, keshav forgot. who is keshav? a very nice person i met in the temple where he is staying for some time. his blog is very interesting but of course talking with him is even better.

we talked about the political situation in nepal, the king who now is also head of the government since there is no prime minister any more. as for parliamentarism, there is a disfunctional rest of a upper house, but no lower house any more. a lot of questions lots of answers while an indian family was going on with a special puja all around us.
nb.: there are also erotic wood carvings on that temple and keshav was there to give still more explanation for those. it includes a war in the time of krishna, described in the mahabharata, a virgin queen with victorian morals a naked hanuman, the monkey god and more. but this has to wait. have a look at
keshavs blog it is very interesting.
ps. _with christels help_ :) i was able to explain the admittingly confusing rules for pronouncing the german ch (nach nacht nicht china chemie) and i pulled out some infos on regional differences as well. yes, keshav learned german in kathmandu, and he speaks quite well. one thing that none of us could realy figure out was k as china and chemie. are there rules for pronouncing it ‘k’, is it even correct, is ‘k’ and ’soft sch’ both correct or what?
